Hunt Stories - Dillon Dayton
Dillon Dayton 1
Dillon's Descutes Ram
By Troy Dayton
Dillon is a 13 year old, 8th grader, from Happy Valley, OR. He has been successfully hunting deer, through the Mentor program and Hunter Safety, since he was 9. Filling his youth cow elk tag will complete his trifecta for 2015!
This 2015 once in a lifetime adventure took place above Beavertail on the West side of the Deschutes River. Three generations of our family took part in the hunt. After floating across the river and a 1,300 foot climb up the canyon wall, the hunt began. Scouting trips showed numerous quality Rams in this area and by mid-day we had a great ram picked out. From 295 yards, Dillon got 2 solid shots into the ram from his new Winchester Model 70, .308. The Leupold VX-II 2.5-8x36 scope paired with 150 Nosler Accubonds, performed flawlessly.
This beautiful ram scored 155-6/8.
Through this adventure, my son proved he is as skilled a hunter as most men I know. The head and cape are at Weibel Taxidermy today. Thank you for playing a significant role in this priceless Oregon hunting opportunity!
